My Heart Belongs To Country Music Showcase

The Artist Development Network in Nashville is proud to present “MY HEART BELONGS TO COUNTRY MUSIC” showcase, featuring 3 talented songwriter artists, Lena Paige, Jeff Huseman, and Christopher Essex! These are 3 different artists with their own style and sound.

The showcase will be on Wednesday, February 12th at 6 pm in the backstage of 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, TN.

Lena Paige

Lena Paige is one of Wenatchee’s biggest exports besides fruit but hardly as well known. A country singer who has been a resident of Wenatchee since 1990.

Though she sings country now, Paige states, “I grew up listening to country music because my main passion was singing harmony. My mom would write and play music, so I challenged myself to do backup vocals for her in three and four-part harmony. I also loved bands such as Journey, Foreigner, The Eagles and even The Bee Gees for their lyrics and harmony.”

Her mom, Nancy Van Wyk, wrote almost all the songs on her new CD, “Roses in December” and Lena wanted to honor the woman whose influence on her musical roots was so powerful.

“Having a very eclectic taste in music, my inspirations varied from Roy Orbison, Ronnie Milsap, Vince Gill, Billy Holiday and Celine Dion. I never modeled myself after any one artist. I loved singing back up vocals to anyone I could,” she said.

Lena currently has a single that climbed up to the #2 spot on ReverbNation, ROSES IN DECEMBER. And her brand new song Lena wrote with Nashville songwriter Bill DiLuigi entitled “Ain’t No Match (for this Ol Flame)” is sure to become a huge hit record on Country radio! So call your local Country stations and request Lena Paige’s song “Ain’t No Match“.

Jeffrey Huseman

Since the age of 14, Jeffrey Alan Huseman has been playing guitar and singing and performing to crowds around his hometown of Uniontown, PA.

It’s been a life-long dream for Jeff to sing for a living, and that dream became a reality when he was asked to be the lead singer for a local Country band. Jeff opened shows for many artists including Shenandoah, Confederate Railroad, Collin Raye, Ricky Van Shelton, and other major artists.

Jeff has recently released his new album COWBOY UP, with his title single currently making its way up the Country radio charts. Call your local Country stations and tell them you want to hear Jeff Huseman’s song, “Cowboy Up”.

Christopher Essex

Christopher J. Essex is a Florida native who has just recently transplanted to the Nashville scene.

He started his career as an actor earning a degree in Acting and Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University’s elite Bachelor in Fine Arts program. He then went to New York City to pursue acting while getting his feet wet in the country music industry. After landing a job playing Johnny Cash in Broadway’s Million Dollar Quartet which took him to Chicago and then on Norwegian Cruise Lines where he traveled to over 15 different countries.

He immediately moved to Nashville to record his first EP of 4 original songs with Kent Wells.

Cathy Lemmon, president of the Artist Development Network in Nashville wants to send out a huge congratulations to her 3 singer-songwriter artists Lena, Christopher, and Jeff and wish them huge success at the MY HEART BELONGS TO COUNTRY MUSIC showcase on Feb 12th at 3rd & Lindsley!

Why not, William Shatner?

I’ve got a better question for you… Why not, William Shatner?!

Mr. Shatner has joined the Country Music Scene and we are overjoyed!

And, he didn’t just join us. He came in full force with great material, and amazing collaboration. This man was not messing around.

Now to his message. WHY NOT ME.

We look around us and we see sadness, despair, loneliness, depression, hopelessness, fear, anger, and anxiety due to an ever increasingly wicked world. The news is constantly reporting murders, suicides, immorality, dishonesty, theft, you name it. There are too many evil influences these days it seems.

But what if we each decide to make a difference?

What if instead of worrying and complaining, we each did out part to make the world a better, happier place? What a wonderful planet this would be if each one of us was a positive influence in the world?

There are so many simple things I can do each and every day to make an incredible impact in the world…so, ‘why not me?’

I can…

 • Smile at a stranger
 • Let someone get in front of me in line at the grocery store
 • Let someone in front of me on the interstate
 • Forgive those who have hurt me
 • Be kinder
 • Be unselfish
 • Say thank you
 • Show more gratitude
 • Let my light shine
 • Be a good example to those around me

Why Not Me‘ is the title for the newly released album by Alabama’s, Jeff Cook and television star William Shatner. YES, you read correctly, the amazing and talented ACTOR, William Shatner, and my favorite Star Trek character!!

Jeff Cook signed on with Heartland Records in Nashville 2 years ago as a solo artist, and William Shatner signed on in January 2018.

A little known fact, Shatner has always loved Country music and this is a dream come true for both him and Country music fans, alike.

The Artist Development Network / Twist of Lemmon Music in Nashville, TN is thrilled to announce the brand new CD release of, ‘WHY NOT ME’ recorded by multi award winning artist/musician Jeff Cook, a founding member of the highest selling country group in history “Alabama” and our favorite Star Trek captain, William Shatner!

Jeff Cook, now a solo artist on Heartland Records produced the record with Heartland Records president Brian Curl and with William Shatner.

Cash Creek, also a Heartland Recording artist, with several albums recorded and available on the Heartland Records. Nashville website at Heartland Records is also a featured artist on the album on the song, ‘Should’a Loved.’ Corey Barker is the Heartland Records A&R Rep for the Nashville area.

Brian Curl, of Heartland Records in Nashville, TN was the key figure in making the project happen. Brian not only took the demo of Why Not Me to both Jeff and Shatner, but he also produced the album and is promoting it to the Country Music market.

This is one of the most anticipated Country albums and we are all excited to celebrate such a unique project.

Writers Corey Barker and Shawn Sackman deserve this wonderful opportunity to have their song included on the record. It’s a powerful message that I feel needs to be heard.

When looking at collaboration, Jeff Cook and William Shatner have so much individual talent, experience, and range that together they have created a match made in country history.

I have been a huge fan of Jeff Cook, one of the founding members of Country’s top band, Alabama as long as I can remember. He is not only a celebrated singer and songwriter, he plays numerous instruments (of course, I’m partial to his fiddle ability) and did you know that Jeff obtained a when he was just 14 years old? That is focus!

William Shatner

William Shatner

And, William Shatner… that goes without saying. The cultural icon with the twinkle in his eye; from James T. Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise, in the Star Trek franchise to veteran police detective, T.J Hooker.

That was just the beginning.

Actor, author, director, producer, and now, country music artist! At 87, Shatner is taking our music world by storm and we are loving it!

Alabama’s Jeff Cook (middle)

I am thrilled that William Shatner loves Country music and recorded this album with his close friend of many years, Jeff Cook. This is double the treat to have both men on the song, ‘WHY NOT ME’ which Twist of Lemmon Music shares publishing with.

Most of the songs on the album were specifically written with the two icon’s musical and vocal styles in mind. There might even be one or two surprise artists featured on the album!

Many people outside of the music industry do not realize just how much hard work, determination, persistence, faith and talent go behind the scenes to finally open up an opportunity like this amazing project!

Written by Shawn Chadwick Sackman & Corey Lee Barker, the song, ‘WHY NOT ME‘ also features Neal McCoy (another amazing voice), with the vocal band, ‘HOME FREE.’

Corey is a gifted songwriter, and he has been a friend and staff writer for over 20 years, co-writing with clients of the Artist Development Network in Nashville and making great music for over a decade. He is the radio manager at Power Source Music in Nashville, author of HIT HAPPENS & 101 Ways to Get Your Songs Recorded. Corey Barker has also had over 500 song cuts/placements over the years. Now, Corey Barker is the A&R rep for Heartland records in Nashville. A very busy man!

Shawn Chadwick Sackman

Shawn Chadwick Sackman

One of my very favorite clients, is Shawn Sackman from Northern CA. He is a multi-talented artist, with a string of success, credit, and experience to draw from. He began in the Tech Industry, which he did for over 20 years… but writing was his first and longstanding love. His first venture was writing poetry, and then, he published a book. Next, Shawn wrote a screenplay. The screenplay, was turned into a movie and sold to Universal. He began writing songs 8 years ago and he contacted me at the Artist Development Network in 2015 to help get his songs to the next level. Everything Shawn does is remarkable, and his ability as a lyricist is no different. He is absolutely incredible.

Shawn has been working quite regularly with a few of our pro songwriters in Nashville who helped him create original melodies and polish up some of his song lyrics. Shawn has so many great song ideas and was just needing the skills and experience of our accomplished songwriters to bring his material up to the level to increase the commercial and marketability of his music.

Corey Lee Barker and Shawn Chadwick Sackman co-wrote Shawn’s song, ‘WHY NOT ME’ which Shawn originally wrote in 2014.

And just like that, the beautiful music process we live for, began.

Larry Beaird

Larry Beaird

Our good friend, producer Larry Beaird produced the demo for, ‘WHY NOT ME’.

Corey pitched the song to Brian Curl, president of Heartland Records, who took the demo to Jeff Cook and William Shatner. We are all so grateful for Brian Curl, and very proud of the great job he, Jeff Cook, and William Shatner did in producing the album.

Corey lee Barker, Jeff Cook and William Shatner, producer Larry Beaird

Corey Lee Barker, Jeff Cook, William Shatner

I asked Shawn what inspired the song. He said that the inspiration came from a feeling surrounded by a lot of negative messages in the news. He said he wanted to write a song about not only seeing the needs of others, but to personally do something about it. He was hoping the song would be a positive influence on others to do the same. Shawn says that Corey embodies these same feelings and convictions so it was very easy to enlist his help to make the song what it is today.

I am so proud of Shawn for pursuing his dream, and it’s so rewarding to see his hard work pay off with this amazing project in which his song made the album.

These are the kinds of things that songwriters live for.

As you can easily see, it is never just one person or one idea. Working with amazing talent, and a great team, that’s where the magic happens. It’s in every step, every interaction, every positive choice you make each day. So, why not me?

Exclusive: The honest, raw, cutting – Preston Ary

Hailing from West Plains, Missouri Preston Ary has most recently been bit by the Music City bug. His intense, unforgettable voice combined with his talent as a songwriter is now making his mark on the Country Music scene.

Preston started his career at seventeen, playing in a local Christian band, all the while developing his very own style and sound. Within three short years, he had become the face of “Southern Edge”, a local Southern Rock band in West Plains and quickly became a local musical icon. Not only has Preston evolved through music techniques, learned from Nashville’s own Buzzy Orange, his move to Nashville is affording him the ability to work with the very best.

Direct from the heart, honest, raw, cutting – those are just a few of the responses you’ll receive when asking about Preston Ary and his music. You’ll hear a lot of influences in Preston’s music, including Brantley Gilbert, Tyler Farr, Guns N Roses, Lynyrd Skynyrd… and while Preston’s music style is more of a traditional country with a strong rock influence, don’t be fooled.

His music has a sound all it’s own.

And now, Nashville’s newest rising star, PRESTON ARY, has found his way to Cathy Lemmon at the Artist Development Network. “Preston is an excellent songwriter, one of the best Country songwriter’s I have come across in my 20 years in the music business“, says Cathy Lemmon. The Resurgence of Southern Rock… Thanks to Kris Bell!

Kris Bell Live Shot 5

Sabrina Fallah

Cathy Lemmon and the staff of the Artist Development Network is excited to be representing Canadian ROCK artist SABRINA FALLAH.

From Ottawa, Ontario, Canada comes a hot new rock artist, Sabrina Fallah. A natural on stage with her polished vocals to her guitar playing, this talented singer-songwriter has a powerful voice and a lot of personality. In her 20’s, Miss Fallah has already made a name for herself by performing wherever possible over the years. Some of Sabrina’s music influences include Green Day, Bon Jovi, and Billy Idol. You can hear a bit of each of her mentors in her original songs where their influences have become a part of her unique blend of style.

Sabrina is an amazing live performer and she keeps busy playing all over Canada. She has entertained audiences at various Ottawa Festivals including the SuperEx, Bluesfest, Westfest, Tulip, and the Fringe Festival (Open Bar Musical). Sabrina has also performed for the Grassroots Women’s Festival, Brockville Music and Dance Festival, Canada Day (Quebec and Ottawa), plus festivals in Toronto including the Youth Day, Kensington, Blackout Event (La Nuit Blanche), and Bloor Street. Venues include Maverick’s, Rainbow Bistro, Brass Monkey Bar & Billiard, Avant-Garde Bar, Chateau Lafayette, Lunenburg Pub & Bar, Duffy’s Tavern, The Hideout, The Central, Linsmore Tavern, Rockpile, Supermarket Restaurant & Bar, Clark Hall Pub (Queen’s University), Cocoa & Joe Café, The Hopper, Birchmount Tavern, and La Brass. The list goes on and on. Sabrina also performed at the Holetown Festival in Barbados and most recently at Nashville’s Commodore Bar and Grille. She’s been on many radio interviews and rocking it out everywhere she performs!

Her first self-titled EP of original songs was recorded in England by producer Stuart Epps, who has worked with major artists including Elton John, Led Zeppelin, and others. Songs from this EP are played on radio, particularly by Canadian, US, and European university, college, and online radio stations.

Most recently, we were privileged to work with Sabrina here in Nashville as we produced her 5 new songs. She had the opportunity to co-write with several songwriters and record brand new songs with veteran producer Kent Wells. This was Sabrina’s best work and Kent brought out her amazing vocal talent, along with excellent tracks on her commercially strong original songs, like her title track “KISS IS A KILLER”, which she co-wrote with one of our favorite Nashville songwriters, Bill Diluigi (who coincidentally is also originally from Canada)

You will find Sabrina’s songs fresh and catchy, fun to sing along with. Miss Fallah is ready for the next chapter in her music career, a wonderful record label that will help launch her music world-wide!

You’ll also enjoy one of Sabrina’s videos that was produced by Brian Harstine, a very talented young man who owns and operates LIQUID CRYSTAL PRODUCTIONS.

Writer’s Night

Nashville, TN offers one of the most unique and valuable experiences for aspiring songwriters as well as singers.

“Open Mic Writer’s Nights” are offered at many of the venues around town, giving artists and songwriters the opportunity to sing on stage in front of a live audience. It’s a wonderful way to measure how well the public receives their original songs, plus it’s great way to perform in front of new people, and to polish and perfect their stage presence, and vocal skills.

Recently, I invited a few artists to sing at my Artist Development Network (ADN) “Writer’s Round”. It was hosted by a sweet friend, Debi Champion at the COMMODORE GRILLE on West End in Nashville, at the Holiday Inn. The COMMODORE is a classy bar and restaurant, with really great food, reasonable prices, wonderful service, and it has a beautiful atmosphere. There are always a lot of people in the audience and they enjoy listening to great music while they are dining.

The Commodore Grille

Each of my artists sang 3 original songs in our Artist Development writers in the round… Shannon Grace (originally from New Jersey) sang a couple of her Pop/Country songs as did artist Lauren Riley (from Arizona). Stephanie De Wolfe (from Oklahoma) sang traditional Country style material and Sabrina Fallah (from Canada) sang a few of her Rock songs.

It was a nice variety of music, and the audience truly enjoyed the show. Here are a few pictures I took from my not so good iphone.

How to Get Your Song on the Radio

If you want to make it in the music business then you’ve got to get a #1 hit on the radio… but how do you do that?

The good ol’ days of sending your song to the radio station are long gone, so if you want to get on the radio you need to work with a radio promoter.

Jerry Duncan is the most successful, reputable radio promoter I know.

Since 1982 he has helped nearly every major artist land #1 hits on the radio; 72 number 1 singles in all!

More importantly (for you) he has been instrumental on breaking new country artists like…

Jason Aldean “Hicktown”, “Why”
Tim McGraw “Indian Outlaw”, “Don’t Take the Girl”
Toby Keith “Should Have Been a Cowboy”
Josh Turner “Long Black Train”
Blake Shelton “Austin”, “Ol’ Red”, “The Baby”
Soggy Bottom Boys “Man of Constant Sorrow”
Trick Pony “Pour Me”, “On a Night Like This”, “Just What I Do”
Brad Paisley “He Didn’t Have to Be”, “Me Neither”
Alison Krauss “When You Say Nothing at All”
Billy Ray Cyrus “Achy Breaky Heart”
Martina McBride “My Baby Loves Me”, “Independence Day”
Florida Georgia Line “Cruise”
Kentucky Headhunters “Walk Softly On This Heart of Mine”, “Dumas Walker”

Listen in as Jerry and I discuss…

 • How to determine which song should end up on the radio
 • The easiest way to boost radio airplay
 • How live performance and radio airplay are connected
 • If music videos help radio airplay
 • Why the lifespan of a single by a new independent artist is longer than ever
 • Jerry’s advice for aspiring singers
 • Jerry’s predictions for the future of country music

Our artist Tim Hadler is climbing the charts with the help of Jerry Duncan – check out the video for his single Down By the Railroad Tracks:

Here are a few of Tim’s other original songs, sure to become hits as well…

It takes a team of dedicated and experience radio promoters to get an unsigned artist on the charts. A professional company like Jerry Duncan Promotions is not going to take just anybody’s songs. You must have the best quality production, expertly-crafted songs, and amazing vocal talent.

Submit your demo here and let us help you get ready for radio.
