The song is everything. While my A&R and staff songwriter, David Harper and I were shooting a songwriting video segment for our newly launched website, veteran songwriter Jeff Pearson stopped by right in the middle of taping. I was so excited to see my good friend after a couple of years of him leaving Nashville to move to Georgia. I’m so thrilled that Jeff Pearson has moved back to Nashville and is once again on board as one of our regular staff writers.
We pulled Jeff into our video to share with you his thoughts on the importance of songwriting in the music industry. With over fifteen years of hosting the writer’s night at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, Jeff Pearson has been highly involved in the songwriting arena. Jeff has taught countless classes on the craft of songwriting and has helped so many songwriters learn about the do’s and the don’ts that make a hit song. He has been a writer for Phil Collins’ publishing company in Los Angeles, California, as well as being published by several large Nashville companies. We’d like to invite you to view this uncut, unrehearsed video segment.

Thank you Terry. Like I have said to you in the past, I do feel you have some great song ideas, they just need to be professionally produced if you want us to pitch the songs to the music industry. Maybe you can find a sponsor to help with financing your recording projects. I can get you a really good deal on the production when you are ready. 🙂

This video was interesting… Music, lyrics, songs; they’re all about passion… Sharing thoughts and feelings through sound… Every song is about something, whether it strikes a nerve in the listener can only be known watching them listen to it… With a few exceptions, listening to a lot of what comes out of Nashville on radio and in the mainstream media right now can be a bit disenchanting for a true writer… There are some basic do’s and dont’s in writing for creating better songs, but the greatest and most memorable songs up to right now at one time happened right inside someone’s heart first and poured out of their mind to become legends of music… I think writers should always write what they feel, and just continue to work on their technique and delivery… If they have a hit in them, it’ll come out sooner or later…
I agree. If you have any songs you’d like for us to evaluate, you can mp3 them at: cathylemmon@gmail.com
Thanks for your comments! 🙂

Cathy Lemmon,
When I see your name on my e-mail..you’re the 1st I take notice..you’re
true to the art of music! likewise it’s
that core-value feeling that comes from one’s soul..from emotions we feel..be it
of happiness,love’s loss,surviving,sorrow,
n’ that empathy being in someone else’s shoes..people are hurting..losing jobs, losing homes, losing life to cancer, etc. though this may or may not
make a commercial song..but it is that reality we live..that is the spirit-song.
Hi Sanford,
That was really sweet. I’d love to hear some of your original song. You can mp3 them at: cathylemmon@gmail.com
Have a great week-end!

Thank you for the video. I have been writing for a very long time.Mostly about lost loves, but found a few other topics along the way.The main goal of my writing was not to make money or become famous, but to make sense of why i’m alone again and (possibly) gain or re-gain that persons affection. And the joy of playing guitar, bass and drums always makes me feel better.I’m as of now engaged to a very nice woman and have stopped recording altogether. It’s a shame the 100 plus songs now sit unlistened to and unperformed, but writing/recording music did get me through some rough times. Thanks Cathy and take care.
Hi Tom, glad you found love again! You are welcome to mp3 us a few of your songs, you never know, right? My direct e-mail address is: cathylemmon@gmail.com
